Celebrating when boys become young men!
Imagine turning 12 and having the BIGGEST birthday party ever!
In Nepali Brahmin and Chhetri families, there's a special celebration called Bartaman (or Bratabandha)!
It's like a Jewish Bar Mitzvah or Catholic First Communion - a big coming-of-age moment!
Family comes from everywhere! Everyone brings gifts and blessings!
There's music, dancing, amazing food, and SO much celebration!
First, there's a small ceremony where the boy:
🛁 Takes a ritual bath - getting clean and fresh!
👔 Gets a new cotton thread draped across his chest (called Janai)!
📿 Learns some special words from the priest!
Then... PARTY MODE ACTIVATED! 🎉
Relatives give money, clothes, watches, and other cool stuff!
It's like Christmas + Birthday + your wildest dreams!
The more relatives you have, the more gifts you get!
No party is complete without amazing food!
Think massive amounts of rice, curry, sweets, and treats!
Everyone eats, laughs, and has a great time!
• Only boys from Brahmin and Chhetri families do this
• The ceremony is usually around ages 7-12
• It happens during a special time called "Janai Purnima" (full moon day)
• After this, the boy is considered more grown-up!
• It's a HUGE deal in the family - super proud moment!
💭 Remember: This is a celebration from specific communities in Nepal. Not all Nepali families follow this tradition. It's a cultural coming-of-age celebration - please verify with family traditions!
