The dish that fuels Nepal!
Daal Bhat is the national dish of Nepal!
"Daal" = lentil soup (made from dried lentils)
"Bhat" = steamed rice
Together = the most important meal in Nepal!
A proper Daal Bhat meal comes with:
🍚 Bhat - fluffy white rice
🥣 Daal - warm lentil soup
🥘 Tarkari - vegetable curry
🌶️ Achar - spicy pickle/chutney
🍗 (Optional) Meat - chicken, goat, or buffalo
• It's super healthy! Lentils have protein, rice gives energy!
• Nepalis eat it TWICE a day - lunch AND dinner!
• It's cheap and filling!
• There's a saying: "Daal Bhat power, 24 hour!"
• Once you start eating Daal Bhat, you can't stop!
Mix the daal with your rice!
Add some tarkari on the side!
Don't forget the achar for some kick!
Eat with your right hand (traditionally)!
And ALWAYS finish everything on your plate!
💭 Remember: Food varies by region! Mountain areas have different food than the Terai (plains). This is general Nepali food info!
